Original 1000 Islands Burger

Ingredients:
  1. 1 x 6  to 8 oz. beef, turkey or veggie burger. (1 all something patty)
  2. 2 – 3 oz. ‘Original’ Thousand Islands Dressing. (special sauce)
  3. 2 or 3 leaves of lettuce. (lettuce)
  4. Slice of American or Swiss cheese. (cheese)
  5. 1 tbs. sweet pickle relish. (pickles)
  6. 1 slice or Red or Vidalia onion. (onion)
  7. 1 large Sesame Seed bun. (on a Sesame Seed bun)

Sound familiar?? But what came first…the dressing or the “Rainbow Room?”

Directions:

Cook burger to your choice of doneness being careful to cook it to a safe degree of doneness.

Toast bun to a light brown and cover bottom half with lettuce leaves.

When turned, top burger with sliced onion and cheese and cover to melt cheese.

Remove burger to bun, top with relish and ‘Original’ Thousand Island Dressing.

Traditional Open-Faced Reuben Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice dark rye bread.
  • 1 tablespoon soft butter.
  • 1⁄4 lb shaved pastrami or 1⁄4 lb corned beef.
  • Olive oil
  • 2 -3 ounces sauerkraut, drained.
  • ‘Original’ Thousand Island Dressing.
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese.

Directions:

 

  • Toast the bread in a toaster until lightly golden brown, then spread butter over one side.
  • Heat fry pan to medium heat and add 2 tbs. oil and meat, Cook for 1 min. and turn.
  • Pile drained sauerkraut on top of meat, drizzle the ‘Original’ Thousand Island Dressing over the sauerkraut, cover with cheese and cover fry pan to melt cheese.
  • When cheese is melted remove from the pan and place on top of bread.

1000 Islands Steak Sandwich

Ingredients: Serves 4
  1. 1 to 1 1/2 pound strip loin, trimmed.
  2. Olive oil.
  3. Salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. 4 Soft hoagie rolls, split 3/4 open.
  5. 8 Swiss cheese slices.
  6. 8 ozs. Sauerkraut.
  7. 12 ozs. ‘Original’ Thousand Island Dressing.

Directions:

Place steak in freezer for 30 to 45 minutes; this makes it easier to slice the meat. Remove the meat from the freezer and slice with sharp knife to 1/8″ slices.

Place the sauerkraut on paper towel sheets, cover with one or two additional sheets of towel and press to remove as much liquid as possible. In a large fry pan add  a drizzle of Olive oil and make four roll shaped piles of sauerkraut, cover with swiss cheese and cover pan until cheese has melted.

Brush steak slices with oil and season with salt and pepper. In another fry pan on high heat cook for 45 to 60 seconds per side.

Place 4 to 5 ozs. of sliced meat on the bottom half of the roll, cover with sauerkraut and cheese and top with ‘Original Thousand Island Dressing.

Thousand Island Chicken (Slow Cooker)

Ingredients

4 Large Chicken Breasts
1 Packet French Onion Soup Mix
1 Bottle ‘Original’ Thousand Island Dressing
2 T Flour

Directions

Place the soup mix and 2 tablespoons of plain flour in a plastic bag , add the chicken and coat well. Put chicken in your crockpot and pour the whole bottle of dressing in , add a bit of water to use all the dressing.

Cook for 2-2.5 hours on high or all day on low

Grilled Cheese With Bacon and Thousand Island Dressing

Ingredients

8 strips thick-cut bacon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more as needed
8 slices sourdough bread
12 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
4 tablespoons ‘Original’ Thousand Island dressing

Directions

Cook the bacon in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 8 minutes. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Wipe out the skillet.

Heat the butter in the skillet over medium heat. Add 2 bread slices. Top each with one-quarter of the cheese and 2 strips bacon. Spread 2 bread slices with some of the Thousand Island dressing and press them on top of the sandwiches, dressing-side down. Cook until the cheese melts and the bread is golden, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Repeat to make 2 more sandwiches, adding more butter as needed.
